A Dental Extraction (also referred to as Tooth Extraction, Exodontia, or Informally Tooth Pulling) is the removal of teeth from the Dental Alveolus (socket) in the Alveolar Bone. Extractions are performed for a wide variety of reasons, but most common among them are :
- Extensively decayed teeth which is not restorable.
- Periodontal ( Gums and Supporting Tissues ) disease.
- Fractured teeth due to trauma.
- Impacted Wisdom Teeth causing Recurrent Infections of the Gums.
- While getting Braces (Orthodontic Treatment ) if the teeth are crowded, sound teeth may be Extracted (often Premolars) to create space so the rest of the teeth can be straightened.

Non-surgical (simple) Extractions
Non Surgical extractions of teeth are the simple ones to remove .It involves a tooth that is visible above the gums and can be removed in one piece.
Surgical extractions
A surgical extraction is more complicated and involves the removal of gum tissue, bone, or both. The surgeon may need to remove the tooth in pieces.At times suturing(stiches) are needed after the procedure for better wound healing.
